I know people are confident that the Senate won't be as heartless as the House of Representives were with the health care act. However, I saw a lot of chatter yesterday that indicated many thought the Reps wouldn't be able to pull off today's vote either.

As an asthmatic, I already am someone with a pre-existing condition. Now if something akin to what passed today becomes law, I will be uninsurable. Why? Because I had an emergency c-section when the OB made a few errors during my labor process. Also, because I had postpartum depression as a result of my OB's mistakes and subsequent emergency cesarean.

Also, because I was date raped by someone who was considered a friend at the time when I was in my twenties.

Also, because I was the victim of abuse as a child. Not by my parents, but again by people we considered friends. Molestation counts as domestic violence.

Do you see where this is going?

The thing is, I am not unique. Chances are you know someone personally who shares at least one story similar to the several instances I share here. Many choose for safety sake not to talk about it.

Or maybe you know someone who has cancer, or diabetes. They are going to be in similar boats.

Some see this simply as a tax break for rich white men, but they are missing a big point. It was never just about tax breaks for the wealthy. It is about oppressing everyone else around you and keeping them down.

The two senators that represent my state are planning to vote no on any sort of legislation of this sort. My local representative voted no. But plenty voted yes, and plenty will vote for something like this. If you are not worried, you might want to reconsider.
